Sunbursts

Note that the wall color will impact the final look of the artwork

Caribbean Sunrise

This sunburst captures the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. It has inserts of lighter turquoise over the darker turquoise pieces which adds depth and interest to this beautiful piece. Each shard is edged in gold enamel paint, representing the glint of the sun on the sea.

Copper Sun

As sunset and twilight kiss, the Caribbean Sea turns black with copper and turquoise highlights reflected in its water. I used black porcelain to create the sun, which is made up of 'ripples' that illustrate the water and highlights the gorgeous copper and turquoise glazes.

Waiting for the Rain

This is the first and smallest sunburst in the H2O collection. It represents the lack of water. The interior of each piece depicts the beautiful patterns found in cracked mud and the exterior, the chard trees you see on the news during those destructive forest fires.

Frost Flower

This is the third sunburst in the H2O collection. Frost on a window pane often forms to resemble flowers. I have recreated my version, not only in hand sculpting approximately 250 individual forms in porcelain, but by layering the glazes to capture the look of ice. The gold represents sun catching the frost in the early morning light.

Drop in the Ocean

This is the second and largest sunburst in the H2O collection. Having never lived far from the sea, I wanted to capture not only the colors of the ocean but the movement of water in the glazes along with the curling crests of the waves. My fingerprints can be seen in along the edges of each piece, creating my own fossils.

Sunlight on Water

The first sunburst I ever did which hangs above my fireplace in our sitting room. Turquoise is my favorite color, but also the color of the Caribbean sea which I have captured in the variety of glazes I have used. The individual shards represent the movement of the water and the gold on each edge represents sun glistening on the water.

Technicolor Glory

As seen in 101 Art book, Color edition 2024

With a completely different perspective of a rainbow from an airplane window, a full circle, known as a glory, and my love of color, I have attempted to capture the essence of this phenomenon by layering glazes thus creating new colors, and experimenting with colored glass adding depth and interest.

Star Spangled

I drew inspiration for this artwork from a recent trip to Colorado. Each night of our vacation, my husband and I would catch the gondola up to the top of the mountain to stargaze, it was the perfect way to end the day.

Black porcelain paper clay with a variety layered glazes form the ‘galaxy”. The ‘stars” were fired for a third time with colloidal 22K white gold, and glimmer in low light, just like the first stars that appear in the early evening sky. 33”x33”x2”

Other sample colors for full sunbursts

Depending on glaze you can have either a gold enamel or a 22K gold finish on the edge of each shard on the sunburst, unless the glaze contains copper then only gold enamel is available as the gold turn black in the firing.
